How to keep your child's skin healthy-looking

As a parent, one of the many jobs on your endless ‘to do’ list is to discover the best ways to protect and care for your little ones. You hear so much conflicting advice about what to do and what not to do it can sometimes feel like you’re trying to decode a complex maths equation. But when it comes to children’s skincare, your mission is simple – to keep their skin as soft, supple and hydrated as it was the day they were born.

4 To 8 Years Old

The skin is the largest organ on the body: it helps keep infections out, warms you up when you’re cold and cools you down when you’re hot. As children get older you’ll start to notice subtle changes to the skin. Gone is the silky soft layer of loveliness, replaced instead with a thicker layer. Children may start to develop freckles or small moles on the surface of the skin – this is all completely normal and just a part of growing up. But if moles start to change colour or shape, speak to your doctor immediately.

Once your little one starts school or nursery, it’s likely that their newfound independence might mean they refuse to have a bath altogether. If this is the case, try to encourage them to have a shower alone instead. Not only will this save any stressful scenes, it will also make the most of their growing independence.

Make sure there’s a bottle of Vosene Kids Sensitive Hair & Body Wash to hand in the bathroom, with its tear-free formula, soothing chamomile and calming lavender, the advanced formula has a mild foaming action that gently cleanses and conditions the skin. Used alongside our Fruity Goodness 2 in 1 Shampoo with super strawberry their hair will be soft and shiny and tears will be a thing of the past.

It’s highly likely that head lice may rear their ugly heads around this time too – take a look at our Exploring the World of Head Lice section [add link here] for some handy hints and tips.

Help! My child has sensitive skin – what can I do to help?

Skin sensitivity in children is a common ailment and one that is usually very treatable with a few simple lifestyle changes. Young skin is bombarded with a range of harmful toxins on a daily basis, so it’s down to you to help protect your little ones – with a little help from Vosene Kids, of course.

If your offspring suffers from sensitive skin, some good old-fashioned TLC goes a long way. You should also aim to limit their exposure to harmful elements, avoid products that don’t suit their skin type and ensure they eat a healthy, balanced diet containing lots of fruit and vegetables. If they’re really suffering, try putting a humidifier in their bedroom and swapping hot baths for cool showers. All of our Gentle to Skin Vosene Kids products have been specially formulated to help sensitive skin, are dermatologically tested, pH balanced, safe and gentle to use, ensuring a tear-free bathtime.

Skin checklist 4 to 8 years old:

  • Always use products that are kind and gentle to young skin
  • Don’t give them too many baths or showers as this will dry out skin – make sure the water is warm rather than hot
  • Encourage little ones to eat a healthy, balanced diet containing lots of fruit and vegetables with a high water content
  • If your child suffers from sensitive skin, try to buy clothing that’s made of natural fibre rather than synthetic
